Here at Lake Merritt Institute, we’re always amazed by the variety of people who come out to help keep the lake clean. It’s not just local businesses, classrooms, and organizations; we get everyone from yoga instructors to dance groups. But our latest volunteer was one for the books—a four-year-old who wanted a lake cleanup for his birthday!
His aunt reached out to get a quick safety training so they could access our U-Clean-It box on E. 18th Street and borrow the gear they’d need. And on the big day, friends and family gathered to celebrate by doing their part for the lake. As they picked up everything from small litter to an abandoned tent, lake-goers stopped by to wish him a happy birthday and thank the group for their efforts.
Happy birthday, young steward! We’re grateful to have you as part of the Lake Merritt community. Here’s to many more years of protecting and celebrating the Earth and wildlife.
Happy Birthday Little guy! How amazing to think about helping keep the space you share clean! You’re one of a kind! Keep it up!
