MLK Day of Service: A Community Effort at Lake Merritt
On January 20, 2025, we celebrated Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day with Oakland’s annual MLK Day of Service at Lake Merritt. This year, 31 new and returning volunteers came out to help us make a difference.
Organized by the City of Oakland, it was inspiring to see all the different groups and organizations out volunteering. Truly “a day on, not a day off”. The day kicked off with coffee generously provided by Equator Coffee, who kindly donated caffeine, to fuel our volunteers. After a quick safety talk, everyone grabbed their gear and got to work.
Together, we cleaned up 53 bags of trash from the shorelines and water of Lake Merritt!
Big thanks to everyone who joined us! Your efforts make a real difference in keeping the lake clean and beautiful.
