Dec ’24 Lake Events

Lake Cleanup Events – Tuesdays and Saturdays 10am

Get involved in our community efforts to clean up Lake Merritt! Join us every Tuesday and Saturday morning. It’s a free, rewarding, and a great way decompress outdoors. Bring your kids, friends, neighbors, or teammates!

No registration needed for individuals.  Meet us at 568 Bellevue Ave, Oakland.  For questions, please email us at: info@lakemerrittinstitute.org

Friday, December 6th  10am -3pm Holiday Bazaar and Concert 
at Downtown Oakland Senior Center (across from Lake Merritt on Grand and Harrison)
Open to the community we will be having a Holiday Concert by the Class Act Big Band.  Come enjoy the big band music with holiday classics.  Join us for the holiday bazaar where we will have an assortment of holiday decoration and gifts from 11am -3pm.  This is a great opportunity to get your holiday gifts for the holiday season.

Oxygen for Lake Merritt: Update on Water Quality with Ben Chen

Join this online presentation about the challenges of managing low dissolved oxygen in beautiful Lake Merritt in downtown Oakland California. Our guest speaker, Ben Chen, is a Certified Lake Manager, biologist, ecologist , and Senior Scientist at the LakeTech corporation, currently working with the City of Oakland on the Lake Merritt Water Quality Management Plan

Lake Merritt Stakeholder Meeting

Wednesday, December 18th, from 4 – 6 pm 

City of Oakland and Water Board will hold an in person and on-line at Hearing Room One, City Hall to:

  • Provide an update on Lake Merritt monitoring and the TMDL water quality study.
  • Receive input on:
    -What is needed next
    -How to use the 1 million dollar EPS/Barbara Lee grant
    -A potential emergency plan in case another fish kill is imminent
