Home/Updates/Postponed – Lake Merritt Dissolved Oxygen Alternative TMDL Public Meeting

Postponed – Lake Merritt Dissolved Oxygen Alternative TMDL Public Meeting

Dear Lake Merritt community members, interested parties, and individuals:

Due to an unexpected budget shortfall at the State Water Board, we no longer have the funding to support the Technical Advisory Committee experts that were to attend the June 25 meeting. We also lost the funding that supported the continuous nitrate sensor monitoring in collaboration with the USGS.

As a result, we need to reschedule the June 25, 2025 public meeting to a later date. We hope to have the meeting approximately one month from now, to allow time for developing a revised approach.  We will be exploring alternative options to fund these project elements.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and disappointment this may cause. We greatly appreciate the comments and feedback you’ve already provided on the draft sampling plan. If you would still like to submit comments, please feel free to send them to me at Tong.Yin@waterboards.ca.gov.

Thank you for your understanding and continued engagement!

San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board

Dear Lake Merritt community members, interested parties and individuals:
The San Francisco Bay Regional Water Board staff will hold a public meeting on June 25, 2025, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. to discuss the Lake Merritt Dissolved Oxygen TMDL Alternative. The meeting will be held both in-person and on Zoom. We will share the meeting agenda and venue details one week before the meeting.
The goal of the meeting is to introduce the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC), which includes four experts advising on water quality monitoring and data analysis, and ultimately offering recommendations for lake management actions. At this meeting, they will offer recommendations on the draft monitoring plan.
Attached is the draft 2025 monitoring plan for your review. TAC members have already provided their initial technical input on this draft, and we now seek input from the public. We encourage the submission of written comments on the draft plan by 5:00 p.m. on June 19. Submission of written comments will allow the TAC more time to consider public input on the plan. Please submit written comments to Tong Yin at (Tong.Yin@waterboards.ca.gov). We will also receive public feedback at the meeting.
Please feel free to share this meeting information with others who may be interested. If you are not already on our mailing list, please ask Tong Yin to add you to our list.
We look forward to seeing you soon.
Tong Yin, Ph.D., P.E.
