A Huge Thank You to Safari West

Spotted: Rhino during Safari West tour
7/2/25 LMI Executive Director James Robinson presents on Lake Merritt Watershed at Safari West

We are incredibly grateful to Safari West for their deep commitment to conservation and for offering families and individuals the rare opportunity to connect with wildlife up close. It was truly an unforgettable experience—an African safari right in our own backyard!

A special thank you to our wonderful host, Marie Martinez, who made every guest feel welcome, informed, and inspired.

I had the honor of giving a presentation about the Lake Merritt Institute (LMI), sharing the important work we do, the challenges we face, and the solutions we’re implementing to protect and restore our urban ecosystem.

Not only did Safari West treat us to an immersive and educational experience, but they also made a generous donation to support LMI’s ongoing efforts in environmental education, habitat restoration, scientific monitoring, and community cleanups.
